4 Types of Zoom in Security Cameras

Different when you zoom in Security Camera

There are primarily 4 types of zoom in security cameras, which can impact the quality of image captured in this device. Since it is important that your security camera works according to your needs, it is  best to look into the zoom type and other features it has before you consider purchasing the device. Find out more about the different  types  of zoom and what you can expect from each.
1. Digital Zoom

Most cameras come with a digital zoom.It is a feature that is common with this device, even if the model has an optical zoom. When it comes to this  technology, the camera is capable of zooming in even after conducting video recordings. However,  you  may  notice  that  the images  will  have  a pixelated appearance the more you zoom in. Nevertheless, you will like the fat that regardless of the amount of zooming in, there is no limit in doing so.

With an optical zoom, the picture remains clear and vivid as you continue to zoom in.If the images are used for further investigations  in  the  event  of a crime, even smaller details are still clear such as faces of people and  license plates. However,  zooming  in optically is not possible after recording the video, so you need to zoom in during or before  you record.

2. Vari-Focal Lenses

A vari-focal lens refers to the lenses that enable you to adjust the in-person zoom level. This means, as you turn the knob, it is possible for you to adjust the zoom level, as well as the viewing angle. This feature is inside the camera, although it is only possible for you to adjust the zoom in person and once you take the camera out of the waterproof enclosure it comes with. Furthermore, it is possible to alter the optical zoom level as you mount of hand the camera on a wall. The only important thing you need to remember, though, is there is a need to adjust the zoom level prior the recording process.

3. Motorized Vari-Focal Lenses

As the term implies, this feature allows you to adjust the zoom level even without doing it in person. Remotely, you can make any adjustments, which may be completed once you click the button on the surveillance app button. To make it even better, you can zoom in even while you are recording a video, but keep in mind that you are limited to an area where the camera is pointed.

4. Pan, Tilt, Zoom Lens

Cameras with the Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ) lens are motorized fully, and you may be able to change the zoom where you point the camera. You can pan a PTZ camera around up to 360 degrees, zoom in much better than other camera types and tilt the device to a maximum of 90 degrees. Whether you adjust it using on-screen controls or joystick, adjusting the PTZ function is possible.

After learning more about the 4 types of zoom in security camera, you should opt for a minimum of 4x zoom when it comes to identifying someone situated at 100 feet. However, attempting to have a clear image of your subject at 250 feet requires 30x zoom, at least.
